Contact your care team whenever you are concerned

Follow the individualized instructions from your maternity care team. Timing is only one part of deciding when to call or seek care. Contact your care team promptly for concerns such as vaginal bleeding, water breaking, decreased fetal movement, severe or constant pain, a strong urge to push, possible preterm labor, or other symptoms your care team told you to report. Call emergency services for an emergency.

This timer does not diagnose labor or decide when someone should leave for a birth location. A commonly taught 5-1-1 timing shorthand means contractions about 5 minutes apart, lasting about 1 minute, for about 1 hour, but the user’s own care-team instructions take priority.
